MANA NUA DO NA MISTALAIGH

July 24, 2022

Buíochas mór do na daoine go léir a glac páirt le déanaí san gcomórtas chun mana nua a chur le Mistéalaigh Caisleán an Bharraigh. Tá áthas an domhain orainn leis an bhfreagairt agus leis an suim sa Ghaeilge a thaispeáin sé. Bhí deacracht mór ag an bpaineáil buaiteoir a thoghadh ach, sa deire, roghnaigh siad ‘Crógacht—Cairdeas’ mar mana nua do na Mistéalaigh. Cheap siad go léiríonn sé sin an spiorad agus an cultúr atá againn. D’aontaigh coiste an chluib le sin agus ghlac siad leis ag an gcruinniú deireannach. Beidh an mana nua ar suaitheantas an chluib as seo amach.
B’é Pat Lynch a chum an mana nua. Bhuaigh sé an chéad duais agus comhghairdeas leis. Bhuaigh Pamela Corcoran duais eile ón hata as na hiontrálaithe eile a ghlac páirt agus obair maith déanta aici freisin.
Go raibh maith agaibh go léir arís.
Mistéalaigh Abú!
A big thank you to the many people who answered our recent call-out to come up with a new motto to be added to our club’s branding.
The brief was “to create a short slogan, as Gaeilge, that represented the club’s ethos and values”.
We are delighted with the response we got and are excited to see the level of interest in Irish, and in our club.
The panel that was asked to adjudicate genuinely had difficulty in choosing an overall winner because they said that all submissions would be worthy to adorn our jersey, but they had to pick one.  They were most impressed that so many of the submissions attached short notes explaining their reasoning for picking the slogans they did, and explained the different Irish formats chosen to suit the particular wording.
After much deliberation, it was decided that the new motto of Castlebar Mitchels, which will appear with the crest going forward, is “Crógacht - Cairdeas“, and was created by Pat Lynch.  The direct translation would be 'Fortitude - Friendship”, but is very strong in the Irish language and the translation to English does not capture the strength in the motto.  The adjudicators emphasized the power of the phrase as Gaeilge.
A separate draw was made from all that entered a suggestion, and the name drawn from the hat was Pamela Corcoran.
The new motto was ratified by the Executive at a recent meeting.
We would like to thank all that took part in this very encouraging exercise.
